Fracking: friend or foe?

Fracking has been in the news a lot lately and has stirred many debates. Many people are opposed to fracking, however many people believe this activity has its valid merits.

Fracking, or hydraulic fracturing, is the process where a mixture of water, sand and chemicals are injected into the rock inside a well at high pressure to allow the trapped gas to flow to the surface. This process allows millions of people in North America access to natural gas which is relatively clean-burning, cheap and abundant. We also can’t forget how fracking creates jobs and enriches local economies. So why all the fuss and negativity about fracking?

It turns out that fracking is not such a hero when it comes to the environment and our health. The drastic interference to the rock beneath us can contaminate drinking water in surrounding cities, pollute the air and our bodies, and may even cause earthquakes.

A recent online poll on votetrends.com has surfaced asking if fracking should be banned. Which side are you on?

Fashion Week

Fashion Week has been taking place in cities all over the world over the last couple of months. Fashion houses and designers have been showcasing the new Fall/Winter collections to buyers and media to display the latest trends and what's "in".

The most prestigious Fashion Weeks are held in the four fashion capitals of the world: Paris, New York City, Milan, and London. Fashionistas dream of having a seat at one of these shows and be amongst the greats of the fashion industry.

Recent polls on Fashion Week and fashion in general have been popping up on votetrends. Whether you are a die-hard fashionaista (or fashionisto), or believe you are fashionably challenged, what is your vote?

Happy Fashion Week voting to all!

Moving Day

In Boston, where votetrends is headquartered, tens of thousands of people move into new apartments on September 1st. In fact, 79% of all apartment leases in the city of Boston start on 9/1. The day has even earned the nickname "Allston Christmas," because there are so many pieces of free furniture left on the city streets!

With September a mere two weeks away, it got the votetrends team thinking about all of our friends who are braving the 9/1 rush. We created several real estate-related online polls to mark the occasion.

When was the last time you moved into a new home, apartment or condo?

When do you think you'll move into a new home, apartment or condo?

Mirror Fasting

Mirrors and reflective surfaces are around us everywhere, from bathroom mirrors, storefront windows and even TV screens. With such a surrounding, can we really blame people who become narcissistic and grow to love seeing their own reflection?

The "mirror fast" has become increasingly popular and recommended by some therapists to people who are too focused on their appearance. People who have gone through the mirror fast have said that they were able to see themselves more clearly, and have felt a sense of serenity.

A recent online poll on votetrends asked its users how long they could last without seeing themselves in the mirror, and most voters replied only less than a day.

How long would you last a "mirror fast"?
