Fracking has been in the news a lot lately and has stirred
many debates. Many people are opposed to fracking, however many people believe
this activity has its valid merits.
Fracking, or hydraulic fracturing, is the process where a
mixture of water, sand and chemicals are injected into the rock inside a well
at high pressure to allow the trapped gas to flow to the surface. This process
allows millions of people in North America access to natural gas which is
relatively clean-burning, cheap and abundant. We also can’t forget how fracking
creates jobs and enriches local economies. So why all the fuss and negativity
about fracking?
It turns out that fracking is not such a hero when it comes
to the environment and our health. The drastic interference to the rock beneath us can contaminate drinking water in surrounding cities, pollute the air and
our bodies, and may even cause earthquakes.
A recent online poll on votetrends.com has surfaced asking if
fracking should be banned. Which side are you on?
