To Facebook... or NOT to Facebook

Facebook has come under tremendous amounts of scrutiny in the past week. Critics have been questioning the long-standing profitability of its advertising capabilities, the viability of the profitability of its mobile offering among users, and even the value of its Facebook "fans".

Facebook officially hit the 1 billion user mark back in late 2012. Analysts estimate the average value of a Facebook fan to be around $174.17 — a 28 percent increase since 2010.

Has Facebook gotten it's last like?

With all that said and done, Facebook seems to have slowed in momentum over the past months. They have been focusing more on the monetization of their platform through better mobile advertisements, and less on user experience development. The latest weapon Facebook unveiled, Facebook Home, represents a push towards taking the Facebook experience to the next level. The jury is still out on whether this new innovation in the smartphone market will help curb further user penetration and drive the total user base upwards.

Time will tell whether Facebook continues to grow, with other digital networks such as Google+ and Pinterest trying to encroach in its space. Methinks that 2013-2014 will be make or break for the social media giant!
