Too Graphic for the Public?

Newspapers and televised news broadcasts have been running disturbing images related to shocking news events. Some journalists say powerful, graphic photographs and videos allow viewers to see the depth of the tragedy and foster support for the victims. However, to some viewers, these images are insensitive and simply disturbing.

After the recent Boston Marathon bombing, many graphic photographs have surfaced in news outlets. In a recent votetrends online poll, users were asked if it was appropriate for the media to publish such photos. Approximately 80% of voters responded that it was appropriate, and that it is important to show the true nature of what happened.

What do you think?
